A New Chapter Begins

In early January 2024, a new care journey began for an elderly woman following a hospital stay after a fall in December. Doctors were clear: she could return home, but only if the right support was in place. That’s when her loved ones turned to our live-in care agency here at Access Care. We arranged for a dedicated live-in carer, and from January 4th, full-time care began—right in the comfort and familiarity of her own home.

Understanding Her Needs

Living with dementia, impaired vision, and limited mobility, the client needs a helping hand with almost every part of her day—from getting up in the morning to preparing meals and staying engaged. It’s not just about practical support, but emotional comfort and consistency, too.

Taking the First Step

A close friend stepped in to coordinate her care, a role that came with a deep sense of responsibility. “I felt the weight of it from the start—and I still do,” they shared. “I need to know she’s being well looked after.” Though it took a little time to adjust to having a carer living in the home, the arrangement soon became a smooth, reassuring presence in both their lives.

Day-to-Day Support

The live-in carer is there from morning to night, helping the client with every aspect of her routine. “She requires help with everything,” the friend explained. But the support goes far beyond just practical tasks—the carer brings warmth, companionship, and meaningful connection to the client’s day. That human touch has made all the difference.

The Difference It Makes

For the client’s friend, the change has been life-changing, too. “It gives me peace of mind knowing she’s receiving better care than she would in a care home,” they said. “She gets the carer’s full attention.” That consistency and personal approach have improved her wellbeing in a way that’s clearly visible.

Why Staying at Home Matters

Without a live-in carer, remaining at home simply wouldn’t have been an option. “No, definitely not,” was the honest response when asked if it could’ve worked any other way. Live-in Care made it possible for the client to stay in the environment she knows and loves.

Exploring the Options

At first, her friend wasn’t even aware Live-in Care was an option. But once they began researching, it quickly became the obvious choice. “I didn’t know about it before. But after looking into it, I realised it was the best solution—it was a no-brainer.”

A Lucky Match

The assigned carer—who also has a nursing background—has turned out to be a perfect fit. “We struck very lucky,” the friend said warmly. “She does everything, and I know the client loves her cooking. They share things together. It’s lovely to see.”

A Heartfelt Thank You

This journey shows just how transformative Live-in Care can be—not just for those receiving it, but for their loved ones too. With the right support, staying at home doesn’t just become possible—it becomes joyful, safe, and full of life. If you or someone you care about could benefit from this kind of one-to-one, compassionate support, we’re here to help.
