As the festive season approaches, we're getting prepared to send our live-in carers to stay with clients in their own homes over the Christmas and New Year period. The time for families to be together, enjoy activities, eat delicious food, and most important of all have a great time. But some of us need help to enjoy such activities - elderly people, those with mobility issues, people diagnosed with Alzheimer's or Dementia, or complex needs. No one should feel left out of festive activities with their families, and having a live-in carer over Christmas can provide true peace of mind for the whole family - here are just some ways how a live-in carer can help your relatives:
1. Accompany your relative to family get togethers. A carer will be more than happy to help your relative get to a family Christmas party, Sunday roast, or any other family event happening around the festive period. This way the whole family can enjoy being together, and being worry-free!
2. Help your relatives to buy and wrap Christmas presents. There's nothing better than seeing those little faces light up when they unwrap a present on Christmas morning! A live-in carer can help your relatives buy Christmas presents (whether that's going to the shops for them; accompanying them; or helping purchase online) and they can also wrap the presents together over a glass of hot chocolate with some festive songs in the background!
3. Help your relative go through their address book and send Christmas cards to friends and family. Your loved ones live-in carer will be more than happy to help them buy Christmas cards and write them to friends and family - then take them to the post office or box, making sure they arrive before Christmas!
4. Help to host and cook Christmas tea. One of the joys of Christmas is plenty of delicious and comforting food cooked by families - and what is better than hosting your loved ones at home, making it feel super cosy? A live-in carer will be more than happy to lend a hand in the kitchen, follow family recipes, and take on the pressures of a roast dinner whilst your relative spends much needed quality time with their family.
5. Go out carol singing or take your relative to see the local pantomime. Christmas is all about fun and if your relative is a little more adventurous then they might want to venture out to enjoy some singing, or have a laugh at the local pantomime. Their live-in carer will accompany them and ensure they are safe and having fun, before taking them home and warming up with a cup of tea.
