Dementia: Common early signs of vascular dementia - what to look out for

Dementia is a group of symptoms which all amount to an ongoing decline in brain function. Vascular dementia is a common type of the disease, according to the NHS - it is caused by having reduced blood flow to the brain. This could be caused by a stroke or a blockage in blood vessels.
The symptoms of vascular dementia can progress over time, or start suddenly - here are the signs to look out for:

1. Struggling to remember things that recently happened, but you remembering events from many years ago

2. Forgetting the names of people and things you use every day

3. Having difficulty in completing tasks you are familiar with

4. Feeling confused - even in a familiar place like home or a relatives house

5. Having trouble remembering dates and days

6. Struggling to follow conversation

7. Forgetting where you put something or where something lives

8. Repeating yourself or losing your trail of thought

9. Struggling to do things you usually find easy

10. Not being able to control your moods or emotions

11. Not being able to follow a story on television or a book
