Working As A Live-In Carer Abroad

Home carer with elderly gentleman in sunny garden

We all crave a little bit of sunshine from time to time - and let’s face it, we’re lucky to get a week or two of real summer weather in the UK! No wonder so many of us flock overseas to enjoy a life in the sunshine - but what happens to your finances if you want to live abroad and don’t speak the language?

There are of course many career options you can choose when becoming an expat - but we want to introduce to you the idea of becoming a self-employed live-in carer to clients in the UK. As a self-employed live-in carer, you get to choose how much you work, who you work with, or where you work.

Most of our home carers work for a few weeks, and then take a couple of weeks off to go back to see their families abroad, or take a break to recharge their batteries. Placements usually last for a minimum of one week, but can be longer depending on the carer and client agreement. Another benefit of being a self employed live-in carer? You can earn a very comfortable wage, and even negotiate your rates so you are comfortable with what you’re earning during shorter periods of live-in care jobs.

Some of our carers work for 2-3 weeks, then fly back to their homes abroad to have a restful break and enjoy their lifestyles - whether that’s in the hot Balearic Islands, or the hustle and bustle of a lively country like Germany and Holland.

Of course there are certain specification to meet if you are thinking of becoming a freelance live-in carer.

You must be:

  • Reliable

  • Caring (duh!)

  • Kind

  • Empathic

  • Self-motivated

  • Honest

  • Hard working

  • Have appropriate care qualifications

But don’t worry if you haven’t got any previous training - we actually run training courses in our Head Office in Andover, Hampshire where you can qualify as an Access Care live-in carer and start working immediately.

You can find out all about private carer training here - and as always feel free to contact us on 01264 319399 or email hello@access-care.co.uk with any questions. You can also register to become one of our live-in carers here!
