In this article, we will be discussing the benefits of Live-in care as an option for Multiple sclerosis care at home and what can be offered to support clients in their own home.

While there are several MS care options, such as residential care, but many people living with the condition would prefer to stay in the comfort of their own home, where they are familiar with their surroundings and have a support network of friends and family locally.

With full-time Live-in care support, you are provided with 24-hour care focused on your individual needs. With many different forms of MS, each case is different, and it’s important to tailor the service to ensure you are able to enjoy a high quality of life and maintain control and choice to live as independently as possible.

Symptoms of MS can include fatigue, mobility problems, bladder control problems and blurred vision. All of theses can be safely managed in the home with the expert support of a Live-in carer.

An Occupational Therapist can assess any extra equipment needed for MS care to ensure your home is suitable for your needs, your home carer will be experienced with all types of mobility supports and will help you adjust to any new requirements. Just some of the help a Live-in carer can offer:

Support With Personal Care, Tailored To You And Your Needs

This would include bathing, changing clothes, using the loo, or more complex support such as Catheter and Stoma care where required.

Assisting with medication

This could include collecting prescriptions and support with pain management.

Domestic Duties

The day-to-day running of the home, including hoovering, cleaning, and laundry.

Preparing and Cooking Meals

Prepared to your specifications, ensuring you are provided with a nutritious and balanced diet.

A vital part of maintaining emotional stability.

Pet Care

A Live-in carer will take care of your beloved pets, whether that be walking them, feeding them and Vet visits when needed.

Support to Arrange and Attend Activities In and Out Of The Home

This could be to visit friends and family where possible or attend places of interest to you such as National Trust/Garden Centres etc.

Support With Your Mental Health

An experienced home carer will understand the emotional impact MS can have on their client and will be sensitive to your needs and understanding of the challenges you face.

An MS Live-in Carer will be specifically matched, not only to your needs, but also to your interests and hobbies. Many domiciliary carers spend years with clients and become part of the family, making care at home an ideal option.

I’m Jess, Bookings Manager at Access Care. As my job title suggests I am responsible for ‘booking’ our Carers which involves finding and matching them to your wishes & needs so others in our team can present them to you for selection. I have many wonderful MS Carers on my books, many of whom have attended a training course which focusses of caring for people with a neurological condition at home – Multiple sclerosis being one of them. I know how much our Home Carers support, and often enhance the quality of life of our clients and it’s a pleasure to help make that happen.

Best wishes
