December 3rd 2024: International Day of Persons with Disabilities

access care International Day of Persons with Disabilities

On December 3rd 2024, we celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), which is a United Nations observance dedicated to promoting the rights and well-being of people who are living with disabilities.

The day acts as a reminder of the importance of inclusivity and accessibility in all of our communities.

This year, at Access Care, we are taking the opportunity to highlight how live-in care can significantly enhance the quality of life for those who are living with disabilities.

Access Care Explains: Understanding Disability

When we talk about disability, it is so important to recognise the broad spectrum that it covers.

Disabilities can be both physical, affecting our movement or dexterity, and mental, impacting our cognitive function or emotional well-being.

Conditions such as mobility impairments, visual and hearing disabilities, autism, Down syndrome, and mental health disorders all fall under this umbrella. Each person's experience with a disability is completely unique, making personalised care, be it live-in care or otherwise, so crucial for their quality of life.

The Role of Live-In Care in Supporting Disabilities

Live-in care offers a uniquely tailored approach to help and support those who are living with disabilities, be it physical or mental.

Unlike more traditional residential care homes, live-in care allows live-in care clients to receive support from within the comfort and convenience of their own homes.

This personalised setting creates independence while ensuring safety and professional care at all times.

Physical Disabilities

For those who are living with physical disabilities, maintaining independence can often be a significant challenge. Live-in carers can provide essential support for their live-in care clients, with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and mobility. They can also help and support with physical therapy exercises that are tailored to their live-in care client’s individual needs, enabling the client to maintain or even improve their physical strength and capabilities.

Mental Disabilities

People who are living with mental disabilities can often benefit from a consistent and familiar environment and routine.

A live-in care can offer a structured routine, which is particularly helpful for those who are living with conditions such as autism or Down syndrome. In addition, live-in carers provide companion care and emotional support, helping to manage feelings of anxiety and create a calming atmosphere for their live-in care client.

Who We Are at Access Care

Founded in 1994, Access Care has been a leader in providing personalised home care services across the UK.

Our mission is to match our live-in care clients with compassionate and qualified live-in carers who meet their unique and specific care needs.

We believe that each and every one of our live-in care clients deserves to live with dignity and respect, surrounded by familiar home comforts.

Expertise and Compassion

Our live-in carers are carefully vetted to ensure that they are qualified and experienced to provide the highest quality live-in care. Whether it's helping with their live-in care client’s medication management, cooking them nutritious meals, or providing engaging companion care, our live-in carers are dedicated to making a positive difference in their live-in care clients' lives.

A Personalised Approach

We understand that no two live-in care clients are the same. That’s why we take the time to get to know each live-in care client and their family, crafting carefully considered care solutions that address their specific and individual needs and preferences.

This bespoke approach ensures that our live-in care clients not only receive the necessary live-in care but also thrive in their comfortable home environment.

The Benefits of Live-In Care For Those Living With Disabilities

There are many different advantages to choosing live-in care for those who are living with a disability:

  • Continuous Support: With a live-in carer, live-in care clients receive 24 hour live in care assistance, providing peace of mind for both the live-in care client and their families.

  • Independence and Comfort: Live-in care clients can enjoy the independence of living at home, surrounded by their belongings and memories, which can be incredibly comforting.

  • Cost-Effective Solution: Compared to the more traditional residential care home option, live-in care can be more affordable, especially for couples who need are in need of support.

How Live-In Care Works

Here at Access Care, we make arranging live-in care as straightforward as possible:

  1. Initial Consultation: We begin with a detailed conversation to understand your specific needs and preferences that are unique to you and your loved one.

  2. Live-in carer Selection: Based on the initial consultation, we present a selection of live-in carers who match your criteria.

  3. Care Commencement: Once a live-in carer is chosen, we handle all the arrangements, ensuring a seamless transition to live-in care.

Empowering Families with Support and Community

Live-in care not only supports those who are living with disabilities but also empowers families by providing them with respite and reducing the burden of care that often falls on their shoulders.

Knowing that a loved one is in the very capable hands of their live-in carer allows families to relax and enjoy quality time together without the stress of caring.
