About our carers

Understandably, the most questions we are asked when people enquire into Live In Care are about the Carers themselves. Who are they? Where are they from? How are they trained? Etc.

Below we have listed some of the most commonly asked questions with our answers to help provide you with more information.

Who are the Carers?

Currently registered with us we have a diverse and eclectic mix of Carers. Just like our Clients, our Care Workers are every age, colour and creed and from all walks of life. Having such a broad spectrum of person allows us to find truly ideal matches to our varied client type.

Where do your Carers come from?

At present many originate from Eastern Europe yet we have male & female Carers registered from India, Africa, Portugal & the UK as well.

Do they speak English/any other language?

An applicants level of spoken and written English is assessed at interview. They will not pass their induction period and therefore not be introduced to a Client by us unless we deem their English to be fully comprehendible. Many of our Carers are bi, if not tri-lingual which is an added string to their bow as we have Clients of many varying ethnicities too.

Can the Carers drive my car or do they have their own cars?

It is very difficult to find a Live In carer with their own car. If a Client requires someone to drive them (perhaps due to a rural locality) then it is suggested they provide a car for their Carer/s to drive. We do have Carers registered with us with full driving licences, however, it is fair to say that the majority do not.

Can we interview/meet the Carers prior to you formally introducing them to us?

Unfortunately, due to the nature of Live In Care, this is not possible. Carers travel from placement to placement and therefore do not have the availability to travel to individual interviews. Head Office has portfolios of each Carer on file and it is possible to request these once we have informed you of the Carer that will be coming to stay so that the Client may familiarise him/herself with them before they arrive. It is our job to provide you with the security of mind that we have introduced the best match possible for the particular needs of the Client. If at anytime you feel we are falling short of this then please contact the Live In Care Manager immediately.

Are Access Care 'Care Workers' employed or self-employed?

Access Care 'Care Workers' are self-employed so they are responsible for their own tax and national insurance contributions. However, this does not mean that stringent recruitment checks are not performed before we allow them to register with us (see below).

What recruitment checks do you do?

Through vigorous recruitment and selection procedures Access Care aims to ensure the well-being, security and health of all of our Service Users. In the first instance the company sends out the registration form, along with the job description.

All applications are processed in the same way. Applicants for interview are selected based on merit and ability alone. Newly registered care workers will not be accepted on to our Register or indeed offered an introduction until numerous checks have been carried out.

What Training do the Carers do prior to placement/introduction to a Client?

We pride ourselves on the level of Training our Live In Carers undergo prior to placement and ensure that we are fully confident in their ability to perform all that will be asked of them. All our Carers are trained by industry experts. They attend either a two or four day residential training course (depending on their experience) and each undergoes a full and thorough induction to the Agency.

We are always pleased to train our Carers to deal with specialised conditions where necessary.
